Chaos to Connected - Helping Parents Navigate Challenging Behavior with Connection; Christian moms, behavior management, positive parenting, discipline, tantrums, aggression, biblical parenting
Do you feel like your child’s whining and tantrums are out of control? Are you wondering if what you’re seeing is actually normal? Do you feel like you are at your wits end, walking on eggshells, and/or just don’t know what to do anymore? Or maybe you feel exhausted and frustrated trying to manage your own triggers because you keep repeating the same yelling and lecturing cycle over and over again. Are you desperately trying to get your child to use a calming strategy but he/she refuses or it’s just not working? If you nodded along with any of that, you’re in the right place! Hi, I’m Kaili, pediatric occupational therapist, connection focused parent coach, and momma to 3 sweet littles. Back in 2020, I started an in-home daycare so I could stay home with my kids while making an income and let’s just say it didn’t go as planned. My oldest became very aggressive, something he had never been before. I tried all of the calming strategies and creating different spaces for him and NONE of it worked. I was really struggling because that is all I had been teaching other families to do for the last decade and to find out it wasn’t helping left me feeling even more hopeless. When I finally found the solution that transformed our family’s lives, I knew I needed to share it with other families in hopes they wouldn’t feel alone, emotionally exhausted, and spend their days wishing for naptime/bedtime like I had been. I created this podcast to give you tangible strategies to decrease your child’s behavior and also help you to learn to manage and resolve your own triggers. This podcast will help you gain more awareness and insights into child development and the root cause of your child’s behavior as well as help you break generational patterning that isn’t serving you. Inside this podcast you will find episodes filled with tips, tools, perspective shifts, and biblical truth to help you throughout your motherhood journey. Most of what I share is going to go against your natural responses and what mainstream will tell you to do, but that is because it includes what most of society is missing when they look at children and their behavior…CONNECTION. It is a vital necessity for all of us to operate out of our thinking brains and use logic, problem solving, reasoning, judgment, and impulse control, specifically when it comes to our responses and behaviors. While these strategies can be implemented for all ages, I focus primarily on 1-10 year olds since that is what I have most personal and professional experience with. If you want to stop feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and on the verge of your breaking point and truly make shifts in your parenting, your actions, thoughts, and responses, to gain more clarity, peace, and joy in your home, then let’s get to it! I know it can feel hard to step into the unknown, especially because you feel like you’ve tried it all, and honestly sometimes it feels easier to stay in a harder place because it’s familiar. But it’s not what God has for you or your child(ren). So take a minute, breathe deeply, and then join me as we jump into managing behaviors with connection! Today, I thought it would be fitting to share Myles' birth story since his birthday was this week.
It was definitely tougher than I thought it would be this far from the experience, it's been six years, but I think it's something I learned the very hard way and I hope if you're in a similar place, maybe not necessarily giving birth, but somewhere in your motherhood journey that it can be helpful for you too.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned in becoming a mother and learning this style of parenting is that our feelings are valid no matter what anyone else is going through.
Stop talking them away, burying them, and allowing gratitude for what you do have to keep you from processing those deeper feelings. It's ok to experience both gratitude and sorrow or anger at the same time. If we don't allow our brain to work through our own hurts, triggers, or traumas as a mom it is going to have a ripple effect in all areas of our lives.

As a parent who is regularly dealing with a child's behaviors, especially if it is one child in particular, it can become really easy to get stuck in certain patterning or habits around our responses to said child. Often it becomes just an automatic response and without recognizing it we can be actually adding more stress and disconnection to our relationship with our child.
Tune in today to find out if this is something you've been unknowingly struggling with and start to increase your awareness to bring change! Plus, you'll get a peek inside to how this happened to me too!

It can be really hard to see the good in behavior, especially when society conditions us otherwise.
We are taught to ignore and punish the behavior we want to go away and reward the behavior we desire. But this often gets us stuck in a trap of always having to manage and manipulate the behaviors.
As I look back on our journey and the intensity of the behaviors plus the immense weariness, exhaustion, and overwhelm that I felt as a mom trying to figure out how to make changes and get the results we needed, I can truly say I'm thankful for the behaviors. Our life has drastically changed and it would not have if this wouldn't have been our story.
With the new year, maybe your child was home for longer periods of time than you are used to or maybe you're in a season of struggle, no matter where you're at, I want you to start seeing the behavior as COMMUNICATION and as BLESSING.
Tune in as I walk you through 10 reasons why I believe we can actually start viewing behavior from the perspective of blessing.

Truthfully, I LOVE to use play to get cooperation from my kids, particularly when it is a task they don’t want to do or are struggling to accomplish (like brushing teeth, changing clothes, etc.) and/or when I have less energy, patience and capacity for a large meltdown.
However, there is one strategy I haven’t shared a lot on yet that I think is vital in the growing obedience of our children.
I have heard a lot of people dinging gentle parenting lately, and while I believe I share more connection focused parenting I do think it falls under the gentle parenting umbrella, and I think it’s because a lot of people see it as being passive.
I believe it is just the opposite. Recognizing that there are limits that need to be set and boundaries that need to be held, but that it is actually possible to do it in a calm and connected way.
I also think that as parents try to learn how to navigate being a gentle parent, it can be hard not to get into a mode of persuasiveness or passiveness, unintentionally. And I do believe that this contributes to a child’s disobedience or delayed obedience.
Tune in as I dive deeper into what this looks like and how to utilize setting limits in a connected way to gain your child’s respect and obedience without coercion, punishment, persuading, or bribing.

Have you seen the opinions shared around social media on gentle parenting? If you have, then you know it's not pleasant.
I've heard things like, gentle parenting is unbiblical or kids who have been raised this way grow up to be disrespectful or have more difficulty obeying authority.
Today, I address this question because I think people often mistake gentle for passive and they are 2 completely different things. I also share with you 5 unique traits I think this style of parenting has to offer.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Do you ever feel stressed during holidays? Birthdays? Random gatherings throughout the year?
Now imagine your child, who has less life experience, less understanding of what's going on and why, and less prefrontal cortex (judgement, problem solving, reasoning) development trying to navigate the hustle and bustle of the season.
Of course it is fun and exciting, but overwhelm and over-stimulation can also easily occur. This throws your child into a state of dys-regulation and increases the behaviors you are seeing. Often this makes it more challenging to stay calm, especially when your stress is already also heightened, and you likely respond in a way you wouldn't necessarily prefer. This feeds into the mom guilt.
Let's stop that cycle from repeating over and over again! Today, I want to bring your awareness to simple, yet super effective ways you can help your child (and you) participate in all the holiday things without all the holiday drama!
